2003 HERA FOUNDATION GOLF SCRAMBLE
TULSA COUNTRY CLUB
“SWING FOR LIFE”
May 19, 2003

The 2003 HERA Foundation Golf Scramble held last May at the prestigious Tulsa Country Club was nothing less than successful. The field consisted of 23 four-person teams (all of which included at least one woman) representing many energy related entities as well as a broad spectrum of Tulsa area companies and a few from Oklahoma City. The management of the TCC and the golf scramble committee received kudos from several players that included wonderful comments about the efficiency of the tournament, the quality of every detail from the course condition to the food, and the tournament shirts and prizes. Many players also requested that we make the HERA golf scramble an annual event. Dr. Joan Walker, player and gynecologic oncologist, stated,
"We had a blast. Great event - keep it up".
Jerry Wilkins, player and Director of Sales for The Tulsa Championship (LPGA event), wrote to the golf scramble committee,
"I wanted to let the whole team know what a great job you did with the 1st annual HERA Golf Event. Hopefully, this was the first of many successful events to help with your cause. You guys are a first class act! All seven guests I invited had a fantastic afternoon".
Jane Baranowski, ovarian cancer survivor, the inspiration for the tournament, and her parents.

The tournament winners were Greg Fairlie, LeeAnn Fairlie, Mark Glasshof, and Eric Outlaw who together shot an amazing 11 under par to receive the 1st place prize of $50 cash each. The winning team's sponsor was Western Geco. However, the tournament winners were not the only participants to leave with a handful, over half of the players won a door prize. The door prizes consisted of restaurant gift certificates, movie passes, golfing and related golf items, bath & skin care products, and gasoline cards. Along with the chance of winning a door prize, participants turned in bids on donated silent auction items. The most valued silent auction item was a Pro-Am spot for the September 2003 LPGA tournament named The Tulsa Championship. Several LPGA players have already announced their intention to play in The Tulsa Championship including Beth Daniel, Hee-Won Han, Gloria Park, Dottie Pepper, & Val Skinner.

Other silent auction items included an autographed book 'Behind the PGA' by Dick Durrance II, golf rounds at top clubs in Tulsa, skin care products, and an autographed 'Sooner Illustrated'. The top prize (and top photo spot) of the tournament however was a chance to win a convertible Mercedes if you made a hole-in-one. Unfortunately, golf is not like horseshoes and close didn't count - no one went home in the new car. Maybe next year.

One successful outcome of the tournament resulted in the HERA Foundation being selected as one of two charities that will receive benefits from the 2003 LPGA Tulsa Championship. This is an outstanding achievement especially considering HERA is new to the Tulsa area. The HERA Foundation will be able to reach tens of thousands of the viewers of the LPGA Tulsa Championship with ovarian cancer information and awareness cards.

The 2003 HERA Foundation Golf Committee would like to thank all of our volunteers, sponsors, and supporters. Without your help, the tournament would not have been possible.
